A constrained device is a device in the sense of an service-oriented architecture that is restricted in terms of processing capabilities (speed, complexity of operations), memory and power supply. The concept constrained device was introduced in the context of the Internet of Things (IoT) and refers for example to sensor devices, location devices, switches etc. which are connected by low-power wireless communication technologies like BLE, ZigBee, Z-Wave etc., have a battery on board that should last for two to three years and which are (very) small in physical size.
